The Initiative Petition


Establish minimum widths for private streets to provide adequate on-street parking and discourage spill-over parking and traffic into nearby neighborhoods. Exclude private streets from the floor area ratio of adjacent buildings. Apply this minimum 32’ street width to all new developments.

Currently private streets as narrow as 20’ are allowed and have been approved. This creates major parking problems, and results in serious off-site parking and traffic in nearby neighborhoods and may create difficulties for emergency vehicle access. Projects that have not received final legal approval should not be developed with inadequate streets and parking for the public and residents.
